Last Sunday was the 2010 Hike for Hospice. On a day that was supposed to be full of rain and thunder 400 people turned out to raise money for the Hospice at Maycourt. The skies cleared and the sun came out.
The Hospice at May Court is a community-based charitable organization in Old-Ottawa South that offers services for patients and their loved ones to experience palliative and end-of-life care in a supportive and peaceful setting. The Hospice at May Court provides care and support to over 600 individuals each year and has over 500 registered volunteers who contribute over 32,000 hours of support annually to Hospice programs.
Last year, the event raised over $98,000
with all of the proceeds going directly towards The Hospice. The Red Apron has been a sponsor of this event for 4 years now and it seems that that the Hikers have grown accustomed to our famous sandwiches which we make only for this event. For the next 2 weeks we will be turning away people at our retail store who are looking for these sandwiches.
This year’s event was a huge success with over $80,000 raised so far with more coming in over the next few weeks.
